Automation Engineer

RackN is looking for experienced operations-focused automation engineers.  The purpose of our server life cycle platform is to turn routine processes into a catalog of zero touch workflows and we are looking for people with a passion for eliminating the toil of systems administration.  We are a profitable and growing business with a distributed team, great benefits and flexible work schedule.

While members of our small team have focus areas, they are also expected to shift between multiple roles depending on business requirements identified during weekly planning.  These roles include support rotations, community engagement, customer consulting and product development.  As RackN grows our team, roles will become more focused on the individual’s area of strength.

Our Ideal candidate has experience working with infrastructure operations and developing portable automation for physical and virtualized systems.  Comfort using Linux is required.

Experience with CMDB platforms like Chef, Puppet, Ansible expected. Some programming in Go, Python, Bash or JavaScript experience is important for the role. Experience with git is a plus.  Helpful experience includes network installation of operating systems via Cobbler, Foreman, MaaS, or Ironic.

For the immediate positions, some or all of these additional skills are prioritized

  • Experience automating VMware clusters
  • Experience configuring physical servers or network infrastructure
  • Experience with image-based deployment
