Welcome to the latest advancements in Digital Rebar v4.14. This is a big update with essential security enhancements, previews of both our new image deployment tool, Eikon, and the OpenShift deployment process, and more. Based on input from our customers and community, v4.14 brings improvements to enable a more streamlined and secure IT infrastructure. Read on to see how this release can transform your data center operations.

Enhanced infrastructure security

Security is a central focus of the release. In this update, we’ve made security improvements across several key areas. Tighter controls on Machine tokens have been implemented, drastically reducing their scope to minimize potential security risks and ensure that system access is strictly regulated. We also strengthened network security protocols, which protect the network against unauthorized access. Data encryption has been enhanced, providing robust protection for sensitive information as it moves across your network. Additionally, we’ve integrated advanced compliance tools to help meet the newest security standards and regulations to ensure your data center security remains top of the line.

Eikon image deployment tech preview

We’re particularly excited about Eikon, our next-generation tool for image deployment. Moving beyond the limitations of the older curtin-based plugin, Eikon is made to adapt to the detailed system insights Digital Rebar collects. We aim for Eikon to transform the image deployment process by offering unmatched flexibility and precision across various operating systems.

OpenShift bare metal containerization preview

Digital Rebar v4.14 introduces a preview for deploying and managing OpenShift clusters directly on bare metal, streamlining operations while maintaining scalability. The preview includes features such as multi-cluster management and application lifecycle management. It also includes tools for air-gapped installations and extensive customization in machine configurations and security settings. Though it’s available to test, this feature is still being developed and expanded, which creates a valuable opportunity for users to provide feedback on its capabilities.

Performance and UX enhancements

Performance is key and with v4.14, Digital Rebar ensures that performance enhancements and UX improvements go hand-in-hand. We’ve optimized event processing and system monitoring to handle deploying thousands of machines simultaneously without breaking a sweat. Its focus is making large-scale operations manageable and monitorable in real-time.

The introduction of the Python client library is another highlight, moving us away from complex bash scripts to more maintainable and scalable Python-based automation.
